11 Dec American T7-T10 Spinal Cord Injury Patient’s Road to Recovery
Jeffrey Guest is a 29 year-old T7-T10 Spinal Cord Injury patient from the United States of America, whose life has turned upside down completely after he became partially paralysed from a catastrophic car accident. However, having a spirit of a fighter, Jeffrey decided to fight against his condition. He came to Bangkok for the Epidural Stimulation implant and like all Spinal Cord Injury patients, wishes to be able to stand on his own and walk again.
Only weeks into his Rehabilitation including Physiotherapy, Jeffrey already feels that everything is going towards a positive direction. Not only did he witness significant improvements with his muscle growth and upper body strength, Jeffrey is now able to move his quadriceps. Moreover, with the help of the Epidural Stimulator, this T7-T10 SCI patient has regained the ability to move his knees and ankles forward. Having experienced all of the improvements, Jeffrey remains highly motivated and strives to fulfill his goals.
Epidural Stimulation is a breakthrough treatment for Spinal Cord Injury patients. The Treatment Procedure includes a surgical implantation of a stimulating device, which works to trigger locomotor-like activities by replacing the damaged connection between the Spinal Cord and the brain. After the surgery, patients will go through 30-40 days of extensive Rehabilitation with the support of our therapists and learn how they can create voluntary movements once the Stimulator is switched on.
Jeffrey’s treatment journey and fight to recovery is an inspiration to all and in his interview, he mentions that since the surgery, his life has been changing in a positive way- such that it is indeed the first time in 8 years he has regained movements in his legs.
In addition to his major improvements, Jeffrey warmly expresses how impressed he has been with the state-of-the-art facilities and appreciates the staff for their professionalism and compassionate care.
“This is by far the best Epidural Stimulation Procedure Treatment that you could possibly get in the world. The people are great. The nurses are great. They really care for you. They take care of you.”
