C5-C6 Spinal Cord Injury Patient from USA Successfully Fundraises for Epidural Stimulation in Bangkok

Zech Carson, a 41-year-old patient from the United States of America, got into a tragic accident that left him with a C5-C6 Spinal Cord Injury, an injury that resulted in the complete loss of movement in his legs, also affecting the ability to extend his wrist. Ever since this life-changing incident, despite the tremendous help from a wheelchair, Zech was forced to live a life where he had to depend on other people’s assistance in performing several daily activities.

However, Zech decided to take matters into his own hand and set out on a search for a treatment that would alleviate his conditions. He finally came to learn about Epidural Stimulation Procedure, which is breakthrough treatment that has helped many Spinal Cord Injury patients regain some voluntary movements in areas otherwise predicted immovable again. The treatment centers around the surgical implantation of an Epidural Stimulation device on the patient’s lumbar spinal cord where the device would give off impulses that would normally originate from the brain.

With the help of his neighbor, Zech had his own fundraising campaign where he received tremendous support from well-wishers and friends. The success of the campaign made Zech’s journey to undergo the treatment a reality.

Days before the treatment, Zech could not keep the excitement to himself. After years of living with a C5-C6 Spinal Cord Injury, the prospect of any changes or the possibilities of what could happen in the future thrills Zech extensively.

The 41-year-old patient underwent the Epidural Stimulation Surgery and began his Rehabilitation Sessions. Although the emotional and physical challenges can prove to be overwhelming from time to time, Zech always manages to find the willpower and inspiration to keep pushing forward.

“He is an inspiration,” said Zech’s wife, who accompanied him to Bangkok, Thailand.

Zech will go on persevering with his Rehabilitation Sessions in the following weeks to come. Everyone at Unique Access Medical is extremely excited to see what the future holds for him.
